Anhydrous Ammonia Tank Testing

Craig's Restoration & Repair offers a unique and expert view in tank inspections because of our "R" stamp welding background.  After repairing several legible data plate anhydrous ammonia vessels we feel we have a better understanding of the construction and problem areas of a nurse tank.  We also take extra measures in providing accurate and thorough tests, such as:
  • Providing a two man crew ensuring that nothing is overlooked.
  • Using certified testing gauges to keep from over-pressurizing the vessel.
  • Removing painted area to accurately interpret thickness of vessel.
  • Regular servicing and recalibration of our testing equipment.

We take pride in our testing because we know what's at Stake - YOU!

Test Provided

Craigs Restoration & Repair provides DOT certified Anhydrous Ammonia Nurse Tank Testing in Compliance with DOT SP13554.  Our test consists of three phases.   Each phase must pass in order for the tank to pass.  If a tank passes it will be tested again in five years in order to continue use.  If it fails it may not be used as a pressure retaining vessel.  Phases include:

Visual

The visual phase consists of visually checking for dents, gouges, cracks, pits and defects.

Thickness

Test completed using ultrasonic testing equipment.

Hydro Test

Tanks are required to be filled with water and hydro tested at 375 psi. for a minimum of 10 minutes this ensures the integrity of the vessel for use with hazardous materials.
